Rhizome
A self watering herb planter
Rhizome was a live project done under the partnership of Manufacture de Digoin and Ecole nationale superieure des Arts Decoratifs.
It was a 10 month part-time project which led to the creation of herb planters and chopping boards and is currently available for sale in France.
Kitchen X Garden
The project brief was to create a product which would help in forming a relationship between the kitchen and the garden.
Keeping in mind that the Manufacture de Digoin had products in both domains but needed something which would be a link between them.
Existing products study
We looked at the existing products of the Manufacture de Digoin to get a sense of their aesthetic and their current colletions.
Factory Visit
A visit to the factory acquainted us with the materials and production techniques available to us for exploration.
Choosing a direction
Me along with my teammates, Maurine Rolland and Callipso Guimard decided to take the direction of herb planters.
We started by researching about the growing requirements of the 5 basic herbs used in the French cuisine.
Ideation
We ideated on the possibilities available and possible material combinations.
Manufacture de Digoin wanted to expand their contacts and wanted to partner with fellow producers to use more than one material. Hence we decided to go ahead with the combination of stoneware and glass.
Mock-ups and Prototypes
We tried several mock-ups and prototypes to ensure that the correct shape, thickness and technique would be chosen.
